Från Wikipedia

Hello, I am Adam, an American student from America. I didn't speak a word of Swedish in September of 2003, and the situation hasn't gotten much better since then.

Name change[redigera | redigera wikitext]

My username was Jävligsvengelska from December 17, 2004 to July 4, 2005. That handle was from a remark by a classmate in one of my project groups.

Why Wikipedia?[redigera | redigera wikitext]

I am contributing to the Swedish edition of Wikipedia for a few reasons:

  • Over the past few years, I have used Wikipedia endlessly and gotten more than a few people hooked on it themselves. Sometimes I sit for hours and hours filling my head with useless information to ward off the paralyzing terror that comes from knowing I'm going to spend the rest of my life alone.
  • To act as a grain of sand in an oyster. Since the English version contains the all the knowledge in the Universe worth knowing and, as such, is finished, I have turned my attention to the Swedish version. My additions, poorly translated from the English versions, act as irritants which quickly attract native Swedish-speaking editors (who can be thought of as the oyster's mucus glands). I am trying to hasten the progress of a version which is packed with stubs.
  • I am also using this to practice my Swedish by translating and looking at what the editors do to my work. It's more helpful than you'd think.

Linking to other languages[redigera | redigera wikitext]

I also do a fair bit of linking between different language versions. There should be an easier system for this.

What hath Adam wrought?[redigera | redigera wikitext]

The following are the articles I have translated:

  • Stańczyk - My first contribution--not that I contributed anything, though.
  • Motorola 88000 - A nightmare of acronyms and French-derived English tech jargon.
  • Stanisław Lem - A nightmare of translated titles. Hmmmm... another Polish article. Odd, that?
  • Theseusskepp - "theseusskepp"? I love Swedish's ability to create enormous compound words.
  • Zebramusslor - The environmental engineering professorinna unforgiveably had no idea what these things are, so I decided to get the word out.
  • The Home Insurance Building - I was chatting with someone about an architecture program on TV while I was surfing and decided to hastily cobble together this article.
  • Lövgrodor - I'm not sure why I translated this. I guess I was bored or looking for a reason to translate Hyla cinerea.
  • Hyla cinerea - I've had a lot of these as pets in the past, so I figured I'd spend 10 min. "translating" its article.
  • Hyla - Might as well throw in the genus, eh?
  • Svengoolie - A local creature feature from Chicago that deserved a translated article.
  • Militärcykel - Translated the article that I'd originally started on the English page to Swedish.

På gång:

  • Sphecius speciosus - Försökte förklara för en vän vad de här elaka jävlar var men tvungen att hänvisa till Wikipedia. Varför inte översätta den?
