Karen Barad

Karen Barad, född 1956, är en teoretisk fysiker och feminist från USA.

Hon har skrivit boken Meeting the Universe Halfway: Quantum Physics and the Entanglement of Matter and Meaning (2007)[1]. I boken integrerar hon läsningar av Niels Bohrs teoretiska philosophy-physics och nutidig "experimental metafysik" med Michel Foucaults mikroanalyser av makt (till exempel begreppet om panoptikon och teori om övervakning). Till detta lägger hon till Judith Butlers performativitetsteori och försök på att göra en materialistisk konstruktionism i "Bodies that matter", och Donna Haraways posthumanism. Barad beskriver i sin bok Haraways "onto-ethico-epistemologiska" position som hon kallar Agential Realism. Projektet innebär att det härskande metafysiska paradigmet (representationalism) ersätts av en position där verkligheten uppstår som fenomen, och inte ligger inne i sakerna själva, som essenser.
