Acerates lanuginosa Dec. in DC. Prodr, 8 : 523. 1844. Hirsute all over; stems erect, slender, simple,6-i8 high. Leaves oblong, ovate-lanceolate orlanceolate, obtuse at the apex, narrowed orrounded at the base, short-petioled, 1-4 long,4-i5 wide; umbel solitary, ternnnal, denselymany-flowered, peduncled ; peduncle stout, denselyhirsute, i-ii long; pedicels slender, puberulentor hirsute; corolla greenish, its segments oblong,about 22 long; column none; hoods purplish,oblong, obtuse, entire, with a flat fold or auricleon the infolded lower ventral margins, shorterthan the anthers; anther-wings broadest belowthe middle. On prairies, northern Illinois to Minnesota, Ne-braska and Wyoming. June-Aug.

Not Raf. 1817.]Perennial twining herbaceous vines, with petioled opposite cordate thin leaves, and smallwhitish flowers in axillary peduncled clusters. Calyx S-parted, minutely glandular within,the segments lanceolate. Corolla campanulate, deeply 5-cleft, the lobes slightly contorted,nearly erect. Crown nearly sessile, of 5 membranous truncate lobes, each appendaged by asimple or 2-cleft awn. Stamens inserted at the base of the corolla, the filaments connateinto a short tube; anthers terminated by an inflexed membrane; pollen-masses solitary ineach sac, ellipsoid, pendulous. Stigma conic, slightly 2-lobed. Follicles thick, acuminate.Seeds comose. [Greek, referring.to the somewhat angled pod.] Three species, natives of America. Type species:Gonolobus lacvis Michx. I.
