Parmotrema hypotrypum är en lavart[3] som först beskrevs av William Nylander och som fick sitt nu gällande namn av Mason Ellsworth Hale.
Parmotrema hypotrypum ingår i släktet Parmotrema och familjen Parmeliaceae.[4][5] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[4]
