Hooker och Thomas Taylor 1818. Grov baronmossa ingår i släktet baronmossor, och familjen Thuidiaceae.[30][31][32] Arten är reproducerande i Sverige.[32] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[30]
