Arten förekommer i västra och centrala Afrika från Liberia till västra Uganda och söderut till Kongo-Kinshasa. Honor lägger ägg.[4]
Populationen som tidvis listades som underart Chamaelycus fasciatus werneri lever i Kongo-Brazzaville, Gabon och Kamerun.[6][4]
