Gyptis propinqua är en ringmaskart[1][3][5][6][7][8] som beskrevs av Marion och Bobretzky 1875. Gyptis propinqua ingår i släktet Gyptis, och familjen Hesionidae.[9][10][11] Arten är reproducerande i Sverige.[11] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[9]
