Football League First Division eller First Division, på svenska Division 1) var en nationell liga som grundades inför säsongen 1888/1889 och existerade fram till slutet av säsongen 2003/2004 inom professionell fotboll i England. Fram till säsongen 1891/1892, då Football League Second Division grundades, benämndes ligan enbart som Football League. Den representerade fram till och med säsongen 1991/1992 den högsta nivån i Football League. Under perioden från säsongen 1992/1993 till och med säsongen 2003/2004, representerade ligan den andra nivån.

Från och med säsongen 2004/2005 benämns den högsta nivån inom det engelska ligasystemet som Premier League och den andra nivån för Football League Championship.

Ursprungligen var det ingen automatisk uppflyttning till Football League First Division utan det avgjordes via utslagsmatcher ("test matches") mellan de sist placerade lagen i Division 1 och de bästa placerade lagen i Division 2. Säsongen 1898/1899 etablerades automatisk uppflyttning av de två bäst placerade lagen i Division 2 till Division 1 samt nedflyttning av de två sämst placerade lagen i Division 1 till Division 2. Upp- och nedflyttning mellan Division 1 och 2 utökades till tre lag från och med 1974.

De ursprungliga lagen i First Division

De ursprungliga 12 lagen som deltog då ligan grundades inför säsongen 1888/1889 var: Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke (nu Stoke City), West Bromwich Albion och Wolverhampton Wanderers),
